Economic Region of the Sava River watershed

The representatives of the Regional Chambers of Commerce of four countries located in the Sava River watershed have recognized the opportunity to jointly identify their priorities and define measures so as to address the existing needs in all areas of life. They have come to the conclusion that economic prosperity is directly linked to cooperation on both regional and national level.

The idea of cooperation in the economic region of the Sava river watershed was crowned on April 26th, 2007 in Sabac where the 12 Regional Chambers of Commerce have signed the protocol of cooperation.

The representatives of the Chambers of Commerce from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia, as well as the representatives of Embassies of the above mentioned countries in Serbia, the Ministry for International Economic Relations, Republic of Serbia and the CBIB project were present.

The overall conclusion of this event was that increased cooperation in this economic region would improve the neighbourly relations between the four countries and at the same time lead to political stability, security and economic prosperity of the Western Balkans.

The CBIB Team Leader gave a presentation on the importance of the regional cooperation and CBC activities in the framework of IPA in the Western Balkans and emphasized the importance of similar initiatives between other actors in the region as well. This will ensure that available IPA allocations for cross-border cooperation will be utilized in the best and most efficient manner.

After the meeting, the agreement between the Valjevo Chamber of Commerce, which has the role of the Chairman of the project until April 2008, and the CBIB on the further support of the CBIB team in training the working groups for preparation and implementation of the joint project proposals of regional Chambers under the IPA CBC programmes was reached.
