Forum of active tourism called “Cycling and tourism: Win-Win combination” – the final event within the project “Cycling routes for the improvement of natural and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Montenegro – Cycling Rural” was held the support of the European Union on Friday, September 24, 2021. in Ljubuški.
The aim of the forum was to acquaint the tourism sector with the results of the “Cycling Rural” project and other most successful initiatives in the region that focus on cycling, as well as to highlight and convey success stories in the field of active tourism in the Adriatic hinterland.
The forum brought together experts from the region in the field of active tourism, and representatives of the Istrian Tourism Development Agency, the Institute for Tourism of the Republic of Croatia, as well as bloggers shared their experiences and success stories through active cycling through cycling.
Ivan Jurilj, Director of the Office of the Government of the West Herzegovina Canton for European Integration and Toni Zorić, President of the Herzegovina Bike Association and the Cycling Federation of BiH, presented new initiatives and potential opportunities for cross-border cooperation.
Work on improving the infrastructure for outdoor activities, with an emphasis on bicycle paths is the part on Tourism Development Strategy of the West Herzegovina Canton for the period 2020 – 2027. The organization of such a forum represents a significant contribution to the promotion of bicycle paths in Herzegovina and helps to position Herzegovina as a desirable cycling tourist destination on European bicycle platforms.
The project ” Cycling routes to improve natural and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Montenegro – Cycling Rural” started on October 1, 2019 and implementation lasted 24 months. The value of the project is around 500,000 euros, of which the European Union has provided 400,000 euros in grants. The project is jointly implemented by the Office of the Government of the West Herzegovina Canton for European Integration, the cities of Široki Brijeg and Ljubuški, the municipalities of Posušje and Grude, and the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi (MNE).
